Siri, Spotlight, widgets and Handoff

Your library is exposed where iOS already looks, so getting back into a game rarely means opening Parlor first.

Siri and Shortcuts

Two actions are available to Siri and the Shortcuts app:

• Continue Playing — opens Parlor and resumes the game you played most recently. Say Continue playing in Parlor or Resume my game in Parlor.
• Play Game — starts a specific game. Say Play game in Parlor. In Shortcuts the game is a picker of your library, recently played first, and matching is forgiving about exact names.

If you haven't played anything yet, or the game's file isn't on this device, Siri says so instead of opening a blank screen.

Spotlight

Games whose files are on this device are indexed in Parlor's private on-device index. Pull down on the Home Screen, type a title, tap the result and it opens straight into the game. Nothing is sent off the device.

Continue Playing widget

Add the Parlor widget in the small or medium size. It shows the box art and name of the last game you put down; one tap resumes it. Before you've played anything, it says No games yet.

Home Screen quick actions

Long-press the Parlor icon for Continue Playing plus up to three of your recent games.

Handoff

While a game is on screen, Parlor publishes a Handoff activity. Another of your devices — the Mac's Dock, or the iPad's App Switcher — offers to continue that game.

Parlor answers the parlor:// scheme:

parlor://library
parlor://play?id=<game id>

The game id is the cartridge's 40-character hash, which is also what save files are named after. A malformed link is ignored rather than interrupting a running game; a link to a game not on this device explains that instead.

Game Center

Fourteen achievements track how much of Parlor you've used, and Game Center matchmaking powers link play. No game titles are ever sent to Game Center.
